I found The Old Salty Dog Restaurant to be a good place to eat in Siesta Key. We stopped by the Old Salty Dog our first week at Siesta Key for an early dinner.

I had the traditional English fish and chips which were great.

My wife had the Captain’s Plate, which is a filet of Mahi with shrimp and two sides.

We enjoyed sitting at the Old Salty Dog, eating our food and enjoying the view around us. The restaurant has open air seating beside the sidewalk allowing you to enjoy the warm breezes and a view of the area. With the word Dog in its name, you know that they would have hot dogs on the menu.  The Salty Dog has two hot dogs on the menu one is a regular hot dog, but the other is a beast. I think the people from Hillbilly Hot Dogs may have consulted with them. It’s called “Our Famous Salty Dog”. I read about it and wanted to try it but in the end common sense won and I passed on it.

The next week my brother and sister-in -law came down to stay a few days with us. We told them about the Old Salty Dog and we decided to go there for dinner.

My Brother-in-law and I decided to tackle The Old Salty Dog.

I have to warn you this is not just a big hot dog. The wiener is dipped in batter and is then deep fried.  We decided to go a step further. We order the Loaded Salty Dog, which comes with Sauerkraut, Bacon, Grilled Onions and Mushrooms and three cheeses. After going through the items on this giant hot dog, I have to include the picture one more time.

How did we do? Well, we clean our plates and we were glad to know we had stomach pills back at the Air BnB house if needed.

Information About Saint Armand’s Circle

While at Siesta Key, I saw a lot of Information About Saint Armand’s Circle. We decided to drive to St. Armand and check the place out.  St. Armand is an island in the Gulf of Mexico just off the Florida coast. To get to the island, we had to drive across a bridge connecting Sarasota to Bird Key. This is a beautiful drive. We then crossed another bridge which took us to St. Armand’s Key. The road takes you straight to St. Armand’s Circle.

One of the first things we learned was the circle has two names. John Ringling who owned St. Armand Key, planned the layout of the town. In the center of the business district he placed a circle named after his friend President Warren G Harding.

We found the Circle is surrounded by upscale stores and Restaurants. My wife loved the stores and shops. I enjoyed the art and food. St. Armand’s reminded me of places in California. I have not seen anything like this on the east coast. As far as the clothing store went, I did like The Black Dog. My wife on the other hand seemed to enjoy all of them.

After shopping we decided to have lunch at Cha Cha Coconuts. The Circle has lots of places to eat, but the combination of the name and the menu pulled us to Cha Cha’s.

Besides having over one hundred shops, stores and restaurants, we found another side to St. Armand. By continuing on John Ringling Blvd. through the circle, we arrived at Lido Key.

 

Lido Key

Lido Key has resorts and beaches. We drove to the three beaches on Lido, which are Lido Beach, North Lido Beach and you guessed it South Lido Beach. In summary the Information About Saint Armand’s Circle is that it is  a place where you have upscale shopping to swim trunks on a beach in less than a mile of each other.
